JohnsonGudjohnsen Out Mon 15th May 2000 10:48 It seems likely that both Town and Bolton will be without two of their top men for Wednesday's crunch play-off second leg at Portman Road. David Johnson injured his neck in a clash with Mark Fish, whilst Eider Gudjohnsen was injured when Wayne Brown landed on him. Good news for Town is that Tony Mowbray may well be back in the Town defence after suffering double-vision when his head made contact with Dean Holdsworth's arm. Mowbray's return could well see Manu Thetis drop to the bench after a terrific display from Wayne Brown as substitute. The excellent Martijn Reuser seems likely to replace Johnson. |
Bolton 2-2 Town Sun 14th May 2000 23:00 Town came from two goals behind to draw in a dramatic Play-off first leg at the Reebok Stadium. Goals from Dean Holdsworth and Einar Gudjohnsson put the Trotters ahead in a first disastrous half an hour for Town. Both Tony Mowbray and David Johnson went off during this period. A brilliant strike late in the first half from Marcus Stewart put Town back in contention before substitute Martijn Reuser put Stewart through one-on-one with the Bolton keeper, who the Town record signing walked round before placing the ball in the corner of the net past the waiting defenders. It all sets up a big night on Wednesday at Portman Road. |
2-0, But Play-Offs Again Sun 07th May 2000 20:26 Town easily defeated Walsall with two second half David Johnson goals, but fans returned home feeling less than ecstatic as Blackburn failed to beat Manchester City and catapult Town into the Premiership. Two play-offs with Bolton (yes Bolton again) await with the first away at the Reebok Stadium next Sunday afternoon. |
Stewart Declares Himself Fit Thu 04th May 2000 11:26 Town's record signing Marcus Stewart has declared himself fit for Sunday's more than slightly important game with Walsall. The serially injured striker says he can't wait for what he sees as the biggest game of his career. Stewart previously played for Bristol Rovers in a Wembley play-off final against the club he later joined Huddersfield, but sees Sunday's march as the bigger of the two. His dead-leg sustained on Saturday at the Valley is now OK and he is back in training. |
Reuser In, Stewart Out Tue 25th Apr 2000 13:25 Martijn Reuser is set to make his home debut this evening in Town's crunch clash with Crystal Palace. The midfield man was one of Town's more impressive players during the 3-1 defeat at QPR on Saturday when Town's inability to defend against teams trying to catch them on the break was once again shown up. |
Reuser In? Fri 14th Apr 2000 15:17 Last week's sub star Martijn Reuser may well be in from the beginning as Town attempt to get three points from tomorrow's trip to Stockport. John McGreal may also find himself in the side after missing Town's last couple of games with an ankle injury. Manu Theits is also training after his ankle problem whilst Mark Venus is still feeling his ankle and is rated very doubtful. Keith Branagan injured his groin in the reserves on Wednesday and so will probably not take his place on the bench. James Pullen may get his second go at bench-warming. Full squad: R Wright, Branagan, Pullen, Croft, Clapham, Wilnis, Stockwell, Mowbray, Venus, Brown, McGreal, Holland, Magilton, J Wright, Reuser, Scowcroft, Johnson, Stewart, Naylor, Thetis and Logan. |
Axeldal Stretchered Off Thu 13th Apr 2000 12:43 Jonas Axeldal was stretchered off with what looks like a serious injury as the reserves lost their Avon Insurance Combination Cup Final 3-1 at Bournemouth last night. |
Town 3-0 Port Vale Sun 09th Apr 2000 23:37 Town easily beat relegation favourites Port Vale with goals from James Scowcroft, David Johnson and Matt Holland. However, the result was tainted for many fans by the collapse and apparent death of a supporter in the North Stand during the second half. Our condolences go to his family. |
Injury Worries For Town Fri 07th Apr 2000 14:13 Town have several injury worries before tomorrow's vital home clash with Port Vale. |
Defender Worries Tue 04th Apr 2000 13:25 Town still have worries over defenders Fabian Wilnis (hamstring) and Gary Croft (groin). Both will take fitness tests before tonight's game with WBA. |
